World Vision International is a Christian humanitarian, development, and advocacy organization. He prefers to present himself as interdenominational and also to hire staff from non-Christian religions. The charity was founded in 1950 as World Vision Inc. by Robert Pierce and co-founder Frank Phillips with the first office in Portland, Oregon. Initially, the charity was operated as a missionary service organization that catered for emergency needs in the crisis areas of East Asia, where in 1954 he opened an office in South Korea. To restructure the organization, World Vision International was founded in 1977 by Walter Stanley Mooneyham who was then President of World Vision.
In 1967, the Center for Advanced Research and Communication (MARC) was founded by Ed Dayton as a division of World Vision International. It became the backbone of the organization of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, collecting and publishing data on "unreached peoples" and also publishing "Handbook of Missions: Protestant North America Overseas".
During the 1970s, World Vision began training families to build small farms by teaching farming skills aimed at creating lasting effects on the communities they helped by promoting self-reliance. The organization also began installing water pumps for clean water in the community that caused the infant mortality rate to drop. Volunteers now use fresh water to teach gardening and irrigation communities and promote good health.
During the 1990s, World Vision International began focusing on the needs of children who have been orphaned in Uganda, Romania, and Somalia in response to AIDS, neglect, and civil war, respectively. They began educating other African communities about AIDS after realizing its impact. They also joined UN peacekeeping efforts to help those affected by the civil war. World Vision has also started openly promoting an international ban on landmines. In 1994, World Vision US moved to Washington State.
According to Forbes magazine, in December 2014, World Vision was the 11th largest charity in the United States with total revenues in excess of $ 981 million.

Organizational structure
World Vision Partnership now operates as a federation of interdependent national offices governed by the same agreement but with three different levels of central control.
- National offices - under the control of a strong center by World Vision International, are registered in the host country as branches of the lead organization.
- The Intermediate National Office with a separate board of directors
- The National Registered Office is independent in its internal decisions but is expected to coordinate with World Vision International and is bound to the Partnership Agreement .
Partnership Agreement is a document that all National Vision Partnership members must sign. According to this document all national offices must accept the policies and decisions established by the International Council and may not establish offices or programs outside their own borders without the consent of World Vision International and the host country. Except for direct project establishment, all funds intended for outside their national borders should be sent through World Vision International. The financial planning and budgetary principles adopted by the International Council shall be accepted as well as the examination of the financial affairs of the national office by the Partnership's representatives.
World Vision International presidents have seats in all national offices with their own national councils.
Partnering offices - located in Geneva, Bangkok, Nairobi, Cyprus, Los Angeles, and San José ©, Costa Rica - coordinate organizational operations and represent World Vision in the international arena. To make large-scale decisions, international organizations consider the opinions of each national office, in both developed and developing countries.
The board of international directors oversees the World Vision partnership. The full board meets twice a year to appoint senior officers, approve strategic plans and budgets, and define international policy. The current chair of the international council is Donna Shepherd. The international president is Kevin J. Jenkins.
Religion
World Vision staff come from various Christian denominations. His staff includes Protestant, Catholic and Eastern Orthodox followers. Around the world his staff includes followers of different religions or none at all. His staff participates in daily and weekly services. They emphasize that one can become a Christian in any culture. However, World Vision also respects other religions it encounters, stating that "to promote a secular approach to life will be an insult to them". Richard Stearns, president of World Vision US, states that World Vision has a strict policy on evangelism, which he describes as "... using any form of coercion or persuasion to listen to religious messages before helping someone."
The World Vision Partnership and all its national members are committed to the concept of transformational development, thrown in the biblical framework and where evangelization is an integral part of development work.
Activities and philosophy
Activities include: emergency assistance, education, health care, economic development, and justice promotion. The organization has consultative status with UNESCO and partnerships with UN agencies such as UNICEF, WHO, UNHCR and the ILO, and financial records reveal that they have funded evangelical activities worldwide.
His approach to help is to first help people and their communities recognize the resources within them. Child sponsors
World Vision runs a sponsorship program aimed at helping children in need, families and communities access clean drinking water, sanitation, education, skills for future livelihood, nutrition, health care and participation in age-appropriate development processes. World Vision operates on the theory that by changing the lives of children, the child sponsorship program facilitates overall growth and development in society, as it helps people build a better future through empowerment, education, income generation, and self-sufficiency.
Allegations of misrepresentation

In a 2008 report on famine in Ethiopia, journalist Andrew Geoghegan, of the Foreign correspondence TV program , visited his 14-year-old sponsor's son. The girl has been "part of the World Vision program all her life" has not said (in subtitle translation) "To date, I do not know I have a sponsor." and when asked about his knowledge of World Vision sponsors, "The last time they gave me this jacket and pen." Geoghegan was confused to find that although "was told by World Vision that [the girl] was studying English at school, and was improving... she did not speak English at all".
In response, World Vision stated that they took a "community approach" where the money was not directly given to sponsored family families. The organization believes that a "direct benefits" approach will result in jealousy among other members of the community without children and will not succeed.
Foreign Correspondents responded to World Vision about sponsoring children who showed a contradiction between the organizational literature which created the impression that donated money was directly given to sponsors and evidence of cases in which sponsored children should receive little if any benefit.
Local corruption
"In February 2007... World Vision received an anonymous tip that World Vision Liberia employees lower level in key positions... divert food deliveries and build inventory for personal gain World Vision immediately launched an investigation into the allegations, sending auditors to [their field location] Through this extensive internal audit, World Vision reveals the nature and extent of the alleged offenses and features detailed documentation that assist further investigation by the US Government. "
On October 25, 2013, World Vision Malawi canceled a visit and fact-finding by a dozen American Christians from San Antonio, Texas. Fear of danger and instability was caused by the sacking of Malawi World Vision staff for corruption. At the same time, the Malawian government sacked the president's cabinet for corruption.

Evangelism
Tehelka's political weekly calls the involvement of World Vision India with AD2000 as evangelistic evidence. Radhakant Nayak, leader of the local chapter of World Vision in Orissa, was also accused by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of being involved in the murder of Swami Lakshmanananda. World Vision India condemned the killing and denied any involvement, pointing out its anti-evangelism policy. Israel-Palestine
In 1982, after World Vision criticized Israeli actions openly in Palestinian refugee camps near Sidon and Tire, the attack was attacked by conservative evangelicals and the Israeli government. Despite this pressure, WV Mooneyham presidents presented to the eight hundred thousand readers of World Vision Magazine a report "showing 255 bodies and body fluids left at the bottom of the school by Israeli bombs." In February 2012, based on information provided by the Shurat HaDin - Israel Law Center, World Vision Australia allegedly provided "financial aid to Gaza-based terrorist groups", the Unity of the Agricultural Working Committee (UAWC), which they also suspected was " terror of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine ". A senior official with Shin Bet, Israel's internal security agency, stated that Halabi was recruited by the military wing of Hamas in 2004 and instructed to penetrate World Vision. According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Halabi diverted money to Hamas to help him dig a military tunnel and buy weapons. Muhammad Mahmoud, Halabi's lawyer, told Haaretz that his client had nothing to do with Hamas and the fact that the investigation had been going on for 55 days proved that there was a problem with the evidence. The Israeli Shin Bet Israeli intelligence agency claims that about $ 48 million of World Vision's resources are channeled to Hamas in just six years and another $ 80,000 is used to build Hamas positions in Beit Hanon and to pay the salaries of Hamas members who fought against Israel in the 2014 war. World Vision asserts that the funds are spent in accordance with the legal requirements that contribute to peace and that charities work closely with the UN and the Red Cross. Amal originally defended Halabi as "humanity".
In August 2016, Israeli officials claimed that the World Vision organization provided the military wing of Hamas with tens of millions of dollars in Gaza. World Vision has condemned these allegations that come amid Israel's campaign against non-governmental organizations working with Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade immediately suspended all funding of Palestinian programs by World Vision. World Vision Australia Chief Executive Tim Costello accepts this step as the right thing to wait for a proper investigation into the allegations. A review from the Australian government came to the conclusion that no Australian taxpayer money was diverted to Hamas.
