The Olympic Games Always Go Over Budget, in One Chart (1968-2016)

Sport related costs for the Summer Games since 1960 are an average of USD 5.2 billion and for the Winter Olympics USD 3.1 billion dollars. Severe cost violations make the 2014 Winter Olympics the most expensive Olympic Games in history; with Russian politician Boris Nemtsov citing allegations of corruption among government officials, and Allison Stewart of SaÃÆ'¯d Business School in Oxford citing close ties between government and construction companies. Although originally budgeted at US $ 12 billion, the budget expanded to US $ 51 billion, surpassing the $ 44 billion estimated cost of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, making Sochi the most expensive Olympic Games in history.

The table below lists the cost that is not too heavy from the Olympics. Due to the large number of reporting methods, tables containing operating costs and total final costs (which include various infrastructure improvements and security costs) are known and unexpected. Loss or net gain is measured against the operating budget. Intangible costs (such as environment and society) and not so total benefits (through tourism) are not included here.
