Citibank has established strategic excellence centers providing centralized operations in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru through Citigroup (M) Sdn Bhd (CTSM, formerly known as Citigroup Trade Services Malaysia), which was established in November 1994. History

1959 - 2009

July 1959 - First National City Bank, like Citibank previously known, opened its first Malaysian branch on Jalan Medan Pasar, Kuala Lumpur with 17 employees.

1965 - Two branches are added, one at Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur and the other at Light Street in Penang.

1982 - The Global Consumer Banking service launches

1986 - Citibank introduced Citigold, Malaysia's first priority banking service for customers with a minimum portfolio of RM200,000.

1987 - CitiPhone Banking service is available. Citibank created another industry first by introducing CitiPhone, a 24-hour telephone call seven days a week. With this service, customers can contact the Bank anytime to do their banking.

1989 - Citibank credit card first issued.

1993 - Citibank is the first bank in Malaysia to launch touch screens and ATM "dip-card"
Citicorp Trade Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a regional trade document processing center using open computer imaging technology.

1994 - Citibank Berhad locally founded on April 22 making it the first American Bank to do so. Offshore offshore banking unit opened at Labuan International Offshore Financial Center.

1995 - CitiBusiness for small and medium enterprises is launched.

2006 - After 47 years, following the revocation of restrictions on foreign banks, Citibank opened four other branches throughout Malaysia - Bukit Tengah (Penang), Damansara Perdana (Petaling Jaya), Klang and Puchong (Selangor) take the number of seven branches.

Citibank started Islamic banking through the window and launched its first Islamic banking product, Murabaha Deposit-i with Kuwait Finance House Malaysia Berhad as the first foreign currency Murutaat inter-bank counter party. This milestone marks Citigroup as one of the pioneers in the field of Murabaha Commodities, which has been one of the earliest institutions to offer products in Persian Gulf countries.

Citigroup launched Citigroup Dow Jones Sukuk Index, the first of its kind to measure the performance of global Shariah bonds (Sukuk).

Citi launched the first 1-hour card issuance service in Malaysia. The one-hour card center is located at Citibank Tower, Jalan Ampang Kuala Lumpur.

Citibank Berhad is a Principal Adviser and Sole Lead Arranger for Telekom Malaysia Berhad's sale and purchase transactions involving the issuance of RM1.0 billion of Sharia Asset Supported by Sukuk Ijarah by ABS Berhad Tower (MAB).

E-Service CitiConnectSM EPF Contribution and EPF Smart Kiosk launched. Citibank became the country's first foreign bank to provide EPF CitiConnect EPF and EPF Smart Kiosk EPF services for each of its corporate and retail customers. CitiConnectSM, a web-supported financial services platform developed by Citi Global Transaction Services to enable Citibank corporate clients to send and pay their employees EPF contributions. At the same time, Smart Kiosks are established in Citibank branches in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru, to enable Citibank customers to check their EPF accounts when conducting banking transactions.

2010 and since

2010 - Citibank launched the industry's first mobile banking platform.

20 Apr 2010 - Citibank Opens Four New Bank Branches in Taipan USJ, Cheras, Melaka and Kuantan, following the authorization granted by Bank Negara Malaysia in 2009, expanding its branch network to eleven of seven.

Sept 23, 2010 - Citigroup Global Markets Malaysia Sdn Bhd, stock arm of Citigroup started an equity brokerage operation at Bursa Malaysia.

2011 - Citibank Berhad gains access to a local ATM network (MEP) utilizing 10,000 ATMs covering 2,000 locations nationwide.

Operation

Branch Network

In 2014, Citibank has 11 operational branches in Malaysia (excluding offshore Labuan bank facilities) including Smart Banking facility at Citibank Tower. Customers can trade in these branches from Monday to Friday, between 9:30 am and 4 pm.

Smart Banking Facility at Level 1, Citibank Tower is open from 09.30 - 20.00 from Monday to Friday and from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm on Saturdays while Citigold Center at Level 3, Citibank Tower is open from 9.30 am to 5 pm. All branches are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

MEPS ATM Network

Having been the first foreign bank in Malaysia, in 2005, to gain access to the Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS) of Interbank GIRO, Citibank Berhad signed an agreement in December 2010 with the Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd which allowed its customers to access national MEPS ATMs.

In 2014, Citibank Debit, ATM and credit card holders can use their cards at more than 11,000 ATMs with MEPS in Malaysia covering 2,000 locations nationwide, in addition to more than 1.2 million Citi and Visa Plus ATMs in more than 100 countries. Currently, 201 financial institutions, including Citi, are part of the MEPS network. All MEPS ATMs have MEPS logos displayed on the ATM.

Services are currently available at all ATMs with MEPS including cash withdrawals and balance inquiries. Transfer of funds between banks and credit cards/Credit Ready/loan payments (via interbank funds transfer) can only be done if each bank offers services through ATM network with MEPS.

Banking Out of Hours Banking

To make banking services available beyond regular banking hours, Citi has enabled banks through the following additional channels:

Phone Banking

Citibank Berhad's phone banking service, CitiPhone, is available 24 hours a day. The CitiPhone service can be accessed by Phone PIN. Phone Banking services are available in English, Bahasa and Mandarin.

Customers may choose to perform various banking transactions either through the Interactive voice response system (IVR) "self service" or by talking to CitiPhone officers. Transactions that can be done include account information, credit limit requests, funds transfer, prize redemption, making Phone PIN, E-statement registration, SMS notifications, apps, product information requests and reporting lost or stolen cards.

Online & amp; Mobile Banking

Citi provides secure websites to conduct online banking transactions. In addition, online banking services can also be accessed via mobile devices. Citi provides mobile banking services through the following:

App Banking - The Citi Mobile app for Apple or Android can be downloaded and used for various banking transactions. This app can be downloaded from Citibank website using QR Code Scanner or via iTunes App Store (for iPhone) or via Android App Market (for Android smartphone).

Mobile Internet Banking - Banking can also be done from mobile banking website using mobile internet browser.

SMS Banking - SMS can be sent to pay bills, top-up prepaid cell phones and to request credit card balance, payment and due date.

Citi Alerts

The Citi Alerts facility provides free transactional SMS alerts and email. Signing up for Citi Alerts requires signing in to Citibank Online - either through the desktop or via mobile.
